In creating The Orange Couch, San Francisco native, Johnnie Sanders, aimed to blend delicious eats, fine coffees, eclectic entertainment and sumptuous décor to create something special—a space to relax, recharge and socialize; a space to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee over the morning news and an evening sampling original works by local musicians. To help make it happen, Sanders teamed with internationally esteemed architect, Ammar Eloueini, whose work has appeared in leading museums around the world. Eloueini used computer-driven lathes to turn a fluid, translucent visual concept into a stunning wall display that sets the tone for The Orange Couch interior. Eloueini’s art, paired with sleek, retro-infused furniture and lighting, creates a calming yet chic ambience.
The Orange Couch features live performances by creative, young local musicians in a rare smoke-free venue. Relax with friends, enjoy fine coffees, sample exotic imported Japanese ice cream – unwind in the hip interior design and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures. With an open, airy performance space and comfortable, stylish seating, The Orange Couch offers a unique, relaxed spot to hang with friends and enjoy intimate conversation.
Coffee and scones? From the looks of the place, you would expect more from The Orange Couch, and you won’t be disappointed – the refreshingly contemporary menu offers fun and locally unique choices. Whether walked-in from the local kitchens of independent bakers, or flown in from Hawaiian mochi shops, the epicurean delights at The Orange Couch are always fresh, never boring, and divinely tasty. Our selection of coffee, espresso, and locally baked sweets & decadent treats include organic options and Fair Trade coffee beans from around the world. Don’t want to start your day with a sugar blast? Looking for an inexpensive, healthy lunch item? The Orange Couch serves scrumptious Tomato Cheese Tartlets, serving-sized Quiche, and other healthy and tasty meal choices.
Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Café Sua Da) ranks high on our menu among visitors who appreciate a richly flavorful, military-grade caffeine buzz. Vietnamese Iced Coffee has cousins across Asia, all featuring a powerful grind slow-dripped through a special press pot into a generous dollop of condensed milk, stirred, and poured over ice. At The Orange Couch, we add chicory to a rich, dark French Roast for a local spin on this irresistibly rich treat. We also serve Thai Iced Tea, the kick-boxing big brother of what we in the West call “chai.” Designed to stand up to spicy Asian cuisine, these drinks play just as nicely with our diet-busting Cream Cheese Brownies, saucer-sized home-baked cookies, and just-surrender-to-it Carrot Cake. Another guest favorite is Mochi Ice Cream.. This Japanese wonder, a ball of extra creamy gourmet ice cream wrapped in a sweetened rice confection, harmoniously pairs two delicious treats into one delectable, bite-sized serving of happiness. These magnificent morsels are so good, they made the newspaper. Mango, Pistachio, Blueberry, Tiramisu—these flavors and twenty others (our selection rotates) will take the heat out of any day.
